Respecting Facial Harmony and Identity
Rhinoplasty is one of the most technically demanding procedures in plastic surgery — and one of the most personally meaningful for patients. The nose occupies the center of the face, and even subtle changes can dramatically alter the overall facial appearance. The Brazilian approach reflects the country's diverse population — surgeons routinely work with European, African, Indigenous, and mixed-heritage nasal anatomies, developing a refined ability to create results that respect each patient's unique facial identity.
Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose by modifying the bone, cartilage, and soft tissue structure. Depending on the patient's goals, the procedure may reduce overall size, refine the nasal tip, straighten a crooked nose, reduce a dorsal hump, narrow the nostrils, improve the nasal bridge, or correct breathing difficulties. The procedure can be performed using an open approach (a small incision across the columella providing maximum visibility) or a closed approach (all incisions inside the nostrils — no external scar).
Rhinoplasty is appropriate for patients who are unhappy with the size, shape, or proportions of their nose, have a dorsal hump, want tip refinement, have asymmetry or crookedness, have breathing difficulties related to structural issues, or want better balance between the nose and the rest of the face. Patients should be at least 16–18 years old and have realistic expectations about the outcome.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty with injectable fillers can be used for minor corrections — but is not a substitute for surgical rhinoplasty in cases requiring structural change. Chin augmentation is sometimes recommended alongside rhinoplasty to optimize facial profile balance — the relationship between the nose and chin is a critical element of facial harmony.
A nasal splint is worn for 5–7 days. Visible bruising and swelling peak at day 3 and largely resolve by day 10–14. Most patients return to work within 7–10 days. The nose continues to refine over 6–12 months. Final results — especially in the nasal tip — may take up to one year.
